Marine Parks

A marine park means damaging equipment is not allowed to spoil the habitat and other conservation measures are taken to preserve the sea.

Marine experts want 20% to 30% of the world's seas to be protected as marine parks with no-take zones.

In marine parks, where fishing is either banned or limited, the whole marine environment can recover and fishermen on the borders of the park benefit.

The Azores is a great example of proactive steps towards sustainability. Supporting numerous marine parks, including a UNESCO Biosphere reserve and since 2005 an outright ban on bottom trawling in their waters.

We worked with the leading UK sea charity, the Marine Conservation Society (MCS), with a poster campaign through independent shops right across the country to raise awareness of this issue.
